Objectives of the Competition

Jointly organised by the School of Professional Education and Executive Development (SPEED) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and EDUplus.com.hk, the Higher Education website operated by the Sing Tao News Corporation, the Associate Degree (AD) and Higher Diploma (HD) Business Innovation Awards 2007 provides a platform for Associate Degree and Higher Diploma students to apply their knowledge and demonstrate their abilities, business sense, creativity as well as organisational skills. As a result, students will be able to benefit from participating in the competition, which will enhance their industry knowledge as well as boost their proposal writing and presentation skills. This will be solid preparation for handling future challenges along their career path ahead.

The AD Programmes were launched in the academic year 2000/01 by the local higher educational institutions in Hong Kong. The AD student numbers have been increased substantially from 9,000 to 32,000 last year. In addition to the long-standing HD programmes, the AD has provided an additional vehicle for increasing numbers of students to make their way into the university education system. With this in mind, the Competition also aims to increase public awareness towards these two types of post-secondary education programmes, and seeks to gain societal recognition towards bolstering the abilities and achievements of those students studying in them.

Business Proposal Scenario

Whitehead Club ("The Club") is a recreation retreat for families in Ma On Shan in the New Territories. It was established on 1 Feb, 2005 and occupies a total area of 1.6 million square feet. The existing facilities include BBQ areas, water sports and other diversions. The Club offers easy access by bus or train and most visitors visit the Club during weekends. Despite additional resources having been spent, it is believed that the Club has not reached its full capacity.

Competing participants are invited to submit business proposals outlining suggestions on how to improve the recreation value of the Club and to position it as an environmentally friendly, affordable day recreation centre for families.
